tl;dr we’re shutting down theta-testnet-001 on December 1, 2024. Please move all Hub testnet operations to provider using resources in this repo.

The Cosmos Hub currently has two public testnets:

  • theta-testnet-001 (“release” testnet)
  • provider (“Interchain Security” testnet)

Since provider launched on 2023-02-02, it has been the Hub’s main persistent testnet for Interchain Security, hosting ~20 consumer chain testnets and running weekly events for validator education.

On December 1, 2024, Hypha will be shutting down theta-testnet-001.

  • Hypha whale validators (earth :earth_americas:, water :ocean:, wind :leaves:, fire :fire:) will unbond and come offline
  • theta validators are encouraged to take down their infrastructure
  • The faucet for theta testnet ATOM will be turned off
  • The chain registry entry for theta (currently under the directory cosmoshubtestnet) will be renamed to cosmoshubtestnet2 and no longer updated)

Validators, integrators, and networks connected to theta should switch to provider, the Hub’s persistent ICS testnet, using the following resources:
