Cosmos Hub & Neutron Merger

Cosmos Hub & Neutron Merger: A Unique Opportunity to Unify Our Strengths?

With Cosmos Hub evolving into a permissionless smart contract platform and Neutron deciding to leave ICS to launch its own validator set, a key question arises: instead of competing directly, why not join forces to create a stronger, more unified ecosystem?

This presents a unique opportunity to align our two ecosystems, preventing liquidity fragmentation and maximizing synergies.

Why Does This Merger Make Sense?

-An Existing Ecosystem Ready to Be Integrated and bootstrapped by IBC V2 EUREKA.
Neutron already has a live smart contract ecosystem, with DeFi applications and integrations that could immediately benefit both. A merger would allow Cosmos Hub to leverage this ecosystem from day one instead of building from scratch.

-A Native DEX for Cosmos Hub
Cosmos Hub lacks a native DEX, which is essential for capturing liquidity and enabling seamless trading. Neutron already provides a working DEX, which could be integrated natively into a unique chain, enhancing its financial infrastructure.

-A Remarkable and Talented Team
The Neutron team is known for its expertise and efficiency. A merger would create an opportunity for close collaboration with the Interchain Commons Lab (ICL) and even a potential integration of Neutron’s talent to further strengthen Hub’s innovation.

-Stronger Together ! Avoiding Liquidity Fragmentation
Rather than splitting liquidity and adoption between two chains, a merger would focus all efforts on a single, powerful platform. This would solidify Hub’s role as the center for interoperability and decentralized finance within the Cosmos ecosystem.

Questions for Discussion:

What are the potential benefits and drawbacks for both communities?

How could such a merger be implemented technically and economically?

What governance models could ensure long-term alignment of interests?

How can we ensure a smooth transition ?

This post is intended to spark an open discussion on this potential path forward. I invite members of both communities to share their thoughts and insights.

Let’s build the future of the Cosmos ecosystem together!

I shared my thoughts in the comments on the other post but will echo a similar sentiment here.

I definitely think this is an interesting idea. There is a long history of collaboration between the ICL and various Neutron contributors. I also think Neutron provides a great ecosystem out of the box that is primarily held back by liquidity (not apps).

That said the technical and social lift of doing this right would make it nearly impossible to do this in an efficient way. Both the ICL and Neutron have been setting exciting next steps (post-ICS) and it would be unfortunate if these were slowed down and not given room to breath. As a result, I think the two chains should stay sovereign for the time being, and in the mean time explore collaborations to see how they evolve overtime.

Definitely appreciate your thoughts though @Guinch_Roze and my mind is open to being change by you and others.

So after 2 years of subsidies of the Neutron ghost chain, now they want to be handed cash for their software that no one is using?!? Do you also want fries with that? or a lambo? Any other demands?

How would the hub, if it had own contracts, benefit from this?
