Outbid franchise on the Hub

Were you there to witness this show of support, details, etc.? Guessing no, so you leap to a conspiracy?

Fascinating behavior.

Edit: also, based on AADAO contributor responses, I don’t even get the sense that they “pulled support”. Sounds more like this idea/collaboration just needs more time to cook.

I mean, quite a few from our team were all there for “the handshake,” so…conspiracy, no; that “conspiracy” is based on what someone else is saying, changing the story of what actually happened. Shrug. The trip to Dubai was quite literally to have this meeting that was had.

Good ol’ he-said she-said.

Anyway, sounds like an interesting idea. I’m interested.

I imagine the boomer response from a few will be that this absolutely must not exist on the Hub directly, so that’s probably most of the feedback you’ll hear. Otherwise, if it’s on Neutron, there’s really nothing to lose as it’s permissionless. The maintenance, promotion, etc. of it is another topic.

Hey folks,
Apologies about the mishap that seems to be unfolding here - this seems to be my doing. I was (and am) excited about Outbid as a pseudo-ICO platform, marrying up with ICS/Forge, so that the Hub offers a rounded token launch platform.

While Streamswap is cool and the OG platform for this, Outbid imo offers a more exciting gamified experience with very interesting PvP mechanics. [yes, I equate the two platforms. If I was launching a token, I’d personally use one over the other…and I’d choose Outbid]

I was also positively intrigued about the funding model too - not the numbers in particular - but the general framework of franchise fees, minimal outlay, etc etc. The structure also means if the product fails, our cost is limited. If it succeeds, Hub gets a share of all token launches on the platform and Outbid team is generating enough revenue to stay committed to it.

Since a Hub franchise is also key for Outbid to gain other franchises, we also discussed things like code licensing, white-labelling, time-based exclusivity for the Hub for new features, etc - ALL of which will be needed to ensure Outbid on the Hub is competitive vs deployment elsewhere (and I urge you folks to discuss these stuff).

That said, all our grant approvals are decided on as a team, and other team members weren’t fully aligned with Outbid.

As such, the team did not want to co-sign a gov prop, be seen as choosing one platform over another, or explicitly signal support for the fee structure. As I understand it, the AADAO team did however provide help and feedback on the prop, just didn’t want to co-sign.

As for support, the team adopted a similar approach to the QF program with Dora - if governance says yes, we will support you.

With me leaving in the next few weeks, I’m currently tuning out of many conversations and projects (focusing on completing my marketing projects), and I believe my lack of attention to the conversation is largely to blame for what’s happening here.

Sorry for the mishap. I’m hoping y’all can discuss the merits of the Outbid platform and negotiate on fee structures to come to a conclusion.

Among other things, ATOM needs:

  • ICS/Forge to launch chains
  • Outbid for gamified price discovery
  • Hydro for liquidity
  • AADAO for support and GTM
  • Token/Meme-factory for funsies

This prop is for point 2.

And with that said, I’m tapping out of the convo again. Other AADAO Contributors and @ATOMAcceleratorDAO are here to chime in as needed.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to clarify the recent situation to ensure we’re all on the same page. Since I wasn’t present for the handshake agreement, I initially believed it was a misrepresentation, which led to some understandable frustration on my end. Outbid reached out to discuss this, and after a constructive conversation with @ericontokenomics , we were able to address the miscommunication directly and resolve things amicably.

I now see how this misunderstanding occurred and appreciate the team’s openness in working through it. I hold no grudges against anyone involved and am still a fan of the protocol and the work they’re doing. It’s clear there was no ill intent, and I value the respectful way this was handled.

Moving forward, I’m committed to keeping communication clear to prevent similar issues and maintain our shared focus on supporting the Hub. Thanks to everyone for their understanding and cooperation as we move ahead together and apologies for the inconvenience it caused.

DEMO THREAD!:

We’ll be doing several live demos of Outbid while this prop is in the forums, and even a live, mainnet launch for Electron on Neutron’s mainnet while the prop is set to go on chain!

I’ll be replying to this comment with more news about demos, and recap videos for all who want to better see/feel what Outbid is, and how it works.

For starters, see you guys tomorrow, November 15th, at 4PM UTC for a demo on the Archway testnet. Will be livestreamed on YouTube and X

Outbid is an incredible platform, and we’re excited to be working with Astrovault. Their DEX stands out for its profitability and consistent revenue generation, which is rare in the space. We’ve been really impressed with the team’s dedication and professionalism—they’ve been incredibly welcoming and supportive since we first got involved in crypto. Not only are they building something special for the ecosystem, but Astrovault’s approach will be a huge asset to the Cosmos Hub by helping new projects secure funding and launch successfully. We’re looking forward to the continued partnership and all the exciting possibilities ahead!

For those of you who missed it, the demo is viewable on Youtube, Twitter and Twitch. www. youtube. com /live /c1m9YVCj8Ew?si=lc-J7gDGUXoQLqv3

Take the spaces out of the link I posted and it will take you directly to it.

I’ve had a blast every time I’ve participated in a demo, and this will help explain why!

I’m really excited about the vision behind Outbid! This will be a fantastic resource for project creators and the community alike, and I would love to explore using it for DataVault’s fundraising needs. Huge congratulations to the Astrovault team for bringing this idea forward!

I think having Outbid on the Cosmos Hub is fantastic idea for these reasons:

Support for Emerging Projects: It provides a low-cost infrastructure for projects to list and fundraise, potentially attracting more developers and projects to the Cosmos ecosystem.

Increased Utility for ATOM: Integration of governance and platform capabilities could provide more use cases for ATOM, solidifying its role in the broader Cosmos ecosystem.

Cross-Chain Opportunities: Outbid’s multichain expansion could position the Cosmos Hub as a critical node in the interchain DeFi and fundraising landscape.

I understand that there are things to consider and it needs to be applied with care but, if done right, Outbid could be a major win for the Cosmos HUB.

Thanks for this feedback.

I understand the sentiment around Hub minimalism, however I contrarily believe that the Hub should have some defined and useful role within the Cosmos Ecosystem, other than just community pool deployments.

Note that we are not interested in launching a separate PSS or Zone in Cosmos. Astrovault and Outbid are both already on Archway and Neutron, and being built on Nibiru. If this prop fails, the protocol will still live on, just closed source, and on our various deployments. Adding a PSS zone just adds overhead with validators, relayers, maintenance, oracles, etc.

Additionally, we do not pose any significant protocol risk to the Hub. Outbid is solely built using WASM smart contracts, and won’t require any type of core protocol upgrade to the Hub, nor any module refactoring. CosmWasm already exists on the Hub, but is just permissioned. We just need permissions.

If we continue to act only on other deployments, it just means that the projects we aim to serve (several in the comments in this prop already) will likely raise less money, and grow alignment and awareness to a specific chain rather than with the Cosmos Hub. It feels like a mismanagement of resources, hence why we want to push for better.

Now that AADAO is sunsetting, does this change the plan? … what’s the plan now?

Great question. Our plan is still to launch this proposal and move forward with it. As more and more Cosmos community get to use it and enjoy it, and more projects are able to raise more funds through it, then hopefully we can revisit this on the forum and elect a proper DAO to operate it?

Ideal operations would have the operating team having access to core Cosmos social accounts, properly leveraging the Hubs reputation. We as an existing team and DeFi project have conflicts of interest, of which we’re always happy to disclose. If we were given access to such accounts that’d be cool, but as I’ve said, I think it’s in the best interest of the DAO to have an elected, Hub representative DAO with less conflicts of interest.

If and when that happens, we’re happy to turn over all keys to the castle based on the same deal we had agreed to? But I think moving forward with this in the short term will be really helpful to new projects building here, and help highlight how profitable it can be for the HUB.

lols…don’t even ask where those keys are!

But I agree, this project can and should continue without AADAO. The hack should be:

  • Hub’s share of revenue just flows back to CP directly, but Outbid team will have to do a bit of extra work and update the community in the forum about progress / revenue every so often
  • Someone on Hub side should do some BD for this, but unfortunately, this will likely also have to fall on Outbid team (in the interim)
  • Similar to BD, marketing should be handled on the Hub side too, but without a counterparty here, I think that would just need to be done by the community at large (with Outbid support)

I know I’m laying on a bunch of things on @ericontokenomics and team, but I think the upside for them is:

  • the quicker Outbid is proven to be successful on the Hub, the quicker the community will organize itself and take the reigns
  • the quicker and more profitable Outbid is seen to be on the Hub, the more likely Outbid is to win franchises on other chains and ecosystem

So I’m going with “more work for Eric and Outbid, but it’s a win-win for all”

Dude… you get it. Yup. Yes to all of this. Give the community something to actually unite around for once, in a way that’s fun and where success begets success.

We don’t mind putting in the work, we’re used to it ;D

@Syed

I don’t know, what do you think, could the Hub account share the forum thread? Since it seems that it’s not gonna launch through AADAO but a community voting?

Imma share it on some channels but things always look more important when the hub account posts it

The official guideline is for the prop to be shared on Hub twitter once onchain.

But let me do a thing on AADAO twitter fwiw

Hi, it’s all looking great.

I am just reading about it, but it seems Outbid has some strong support here, and I am sure it is justified.

However, I just would like to ask for clarification. Is it going to be a proposal for including a closed source smart contract on the Hub?

Indeed, I have read some mention of closed source in the thread, but not sure what it is about.
I personally have no issue with closed source in general, however I would not want to see anything closed source on the Hub (would be totally fine on Neutron if it was the case).

Thank you.

Regards,
arlai

Outbid is currently closed source.

Part of the agreement with the Hub would be that they would open their repos, but with BSL (to protect their franchise model)

Hi Cosmos Community,

Nathan here from Landslide, the IBC connection to Avalanche. :small_red_triangle::atom_symbol:

We’re excited about the innovation happening within the Cosmos ecosystem, and we’d like to express our interest in exploring the possibility of using Outbid on the ATOM Hub.

Of course, this would be contingent on thorough legal review and jurisdictional compliance, as required. However, we believe there is significant potential in leveraging Outbid for collaborative opportunities that benefit the Landslide, Avalanche, and ATOM ecosystems.

We’d love to hear your thoughts and explore how we can work together to make this happen.
